Chief Claude Young, Sr.

Claude Young, Sr.Claude G. Young Sr., 88, formerly of Rothsville, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, at United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz.

He was born in Rothsville to the late Helen (Young) Reedy but was raised by his grandparents, the late John G. and Stella B. Young. He was the husband of Ethel M. (Hollinger) Young, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.

Claude was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Rothsville. He was also a life member of the Rothsville Volunteer Fire Company serving for 72 years. He was a Past Fire Chief, and served as Fire Chief for 30 years (1958-1988). He also served as the Fire Prevention Officer for the company for many years. He was a Past President and life member of the Lancaster County Firemen’s Association, a life member of the Keystone State Fire Chief’s Association, and a member of the Lancaster County Fire Chief’s Association.

He was a member of the Rothsville Rabbit Hillers and the Rothsville Bicentennial Committee. He was a member of the Ephrata Lodge No. 665 Free and Accepted Masons for 41 years. He was a member of the Lititz Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Claude was employed in the manufacturing facility for New Holland Machine Co. for 41 years, retiring from Ford New Holland.

In addition to his wife, Claude is survived by four sons: Claude Jr., husband of Gloria Young, of Lititz; Gary, husband of Sharye Young, of Ephrata; Craig, husband of Deborah Young of Lititz; John, husband of Jody Young of Lititz; a daughter: Linda, wife of Allen Lutz, of Lititz; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Jane Peters and Elizabeth Derby.
